A Decent Label

Theres No Other Word Then Decent For Tribal, If You Get Views On Tiktok First Though They'll Try Harder To Push Your Song So Keep That In Mind Guys Key Things About Tribal : They Don't Push Each Sound, Sometimes They Play Slight Favorites And Let Songs Die Out While Pushing Others So I'd Suggest To Release A Few Songs And See! Downsides : They Do Harsh Recoup And Its Very Likely You Won't Get Paid Upsides : They're 100transparent On Everything And Let You Know Details Most Labels Wouldn't Tell You

I released with them, and got almost 2,000,000 Streams and almost 5,000 videos. Their promotion is excellent, but i have not recieved any money yet, due to recoupment. Its great to build momentum as an artist, but not to make a profit.

Tribal Trap is, without a doubt, the most transparent music label I’ve worked with so far. From contracts and paperwork to advertising and promotion, everything is handled professionally, officially, and on time. What I especially appreciate is that they don’t treat promotion as a one sided process. When necessary, they involve the artist, ask for your opinion, listen to your ideas, and genuinely respect your creative input. I’ve worked with Tribal Trap for quite some time, and I definitely plan to continue working with them. When it comes to payments, the only thing I personally find inconvenient is the quarterly payment schedule. However, thanks to their system, you still have the option to access your earnings quickly when needed, which makes the process much more flexible. Their promotion is effective, and they have a strong and extensive network that can genuinely make a difference for a release. Out of all the labels I’ve worked with throughout my career, Tribal Trap is the one I’ve been the happiest working with. Professional, transparent, artist-friendly, and reliable.

the reason artists hate recoup lol

credit where its due, the promo is actually good. they put a decent chunk of money behind songs, if you are new and just want exposure and streams, they deliver better than quite a few labels. the money side is where it falls apart. 50/50 sounds fair until you realise every cost comes out of your half. promo spend, cover art, playlist placements, all recouped from your share before you see a cent. and with most releases going through soundon now, the pay per stream rate is so low that recouping is basically impossible. my releases did millions of streams (not under soundon) and i never got a cent from the song. the statements dont help either. just vague recoup totals, no breakdown, no way to check what was actually spent. youre trusting their number. the contract has some weird spots too. a few clauses are vague in a way that works out for the label but reads like the opposite if you dont know contracts (this was a year+ ago, so maybe its not the same now). get someone whos seen music deals to look it over before you sign. and theres the data breach that leaked personal info of thousands of artists. emails, home addresses, even parents names. keep that in mind before handing over your details. theyre not a scam and theyre not terrible. plenty of artists got their start there and the exposure is legit. but the way the deal is set up, most artists will never see a cent from their own music. theyre the reason artists hate recoup as a whole, because they go above and beyond with it 😭 sign for the push if you need it, just dont expect a payday.

The contract is quite clear and you have an easy communication with this label. The thing I’m quite sad about is the promotion: I feel like most of my streams came from their playlists, and not from socials like TikTok or Instagram, so it didn’t help me to build a community. Sometimes they don’t even do any promo when some songs have potential. Except that it stays a nice label, but not the greatest either.

Payments & Royalties Tribal Trap uses SoundOn, so the streaming rate is quite low. They send royalty statements every three months. However, they have a lot of recoupment, especially for the promotion and marketing they do, which can take a significant part of your earnings. Communication When you send them a demo, it’s usually very good in terms of getting a response. However, after signing or releasing a song with them, they sometimes don’t respond to your messages. Contract Clarity The contract is legitimate and relatively clear. Promotion Tribal Trap’s promotion is quite random. Sometimes, they simply don’t pay the right editors or creators to promote your song. I also think they don’t always use the right strategy to make a song go viral.

Tribal Trap from my vision

Payments & royalties: first of all the label uses SoundOn as a distributor which makes it really hard to make some serious money since they have the ULTIMATE COMBINATION of SoundOn + the most massive recoup in the funk/phonk industry and history. You might never see any money unless your song with them got around 10M+ streams (prolly not even at that point lol) Communication: I never had any problems with the communication with them, sometimes small, sometimes they ignore tf out of you but ig thats aight sometimes since they aren't the smallest label out there. I like that you can just dm them on instagram and they work with you that way. Contract clarity: Never had any big problems with it, everything was good to understand. Promotion: If you want to go viral with good promotion and not forced videos or a random blowup that any label could have made viral, you don't have to work with Tribal Trap. From what I have seen on my side and friends sides, this label just pays the most random creators / agencies and expects the song to go viral af, kinda doesn't make sense but worked multiple times with their top artist "Ariis". Ariis is also the only reason I am giving the promotion a 2/5 rating lol (would have been 1 without him) Creative freedom: Not alot, like I said, I see creative freedom as part of also forging trends for the song, which they have probably NEVER done before, never seen any big trends that were not random. Thanks for reading.

Good label. Fast responses to demos, great communication. Contracts unfortunately are not really negotiable (unless you're already doing huge streams), release changes are usually impossible. I got a mixed opinion about the promotion, I feel like their initial budget/push is too small most of the time and doesn't even give a chance for the release to start blowing up. On the other hand, they really got a lot of viral hits released, so maybe I got just a bit more unlucky. Their playlists are solid though, so releases usually get some streams even if the TikTok campaign flopped. To summarize, I think it's a solid label and I definitely can trust them whenever I release with them. Due to other labels offering me simply better terms, they're just not my 1st choice most of the time.
